ONDCP DIRECTOR TO ATTEND 2001 BOY SCOUTS NATIONAL JAMBOREE WITH PRESIDENT BUSH
SUNDAY, JULY 29, 7 P.M. FORT A.P. HILL OPEN TO THE MEDIA
(Washington D.C.)—Edward H. Jurith, Acting Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), will join President Bush at his address to the 2001 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree on Sunday, July 29 at 7 p.m. at Fort A.P. Hill near Fredricksburg, VA.
In his remarks, President Bush will commend the Boy Scouts for their anti-drug efforts. Prior to the President's remarks, ONDCP Acting Director Jurith will visit the "What's Your Anti-Drug" exhibit at the "Drugs: A Deadly Game" tent. The tent contains interactive displays sponsored by ONDCP that encourage the nearly 40,000 Jamboree participants to declare their anti-drugs—the things that stand between them and drugs. Participants may also:
- Record their names and anti-drugs on a signature board
- Visit ONDCP's www.freevibe.com to see the physical responses different parts of the body have to drugs
- Get their National Jamboree passports stamped with the "What's Your Anti Drug" logo
- Pick up free skateboarding posters and "What's Your Anti-Drug" print inserts
Created in 1998, the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign's purpose is to educate and empower all youth to reject illegal drugs. The Campaign targets youth ages 9–18—particularly vulnerable middle-school adolescents—their parents, and other adults who influence the choices young people make.
Boy Scouts of America has held a National Scout Jamboree throughout the United States since 1937. Scouts use approximately 12,000 acres of Fort A.P. Hill in Caroline County, near Fredericksburg, VA to support a city of nearly 40,000 Scouts and leaders with daily activities that reflect the skills and the spirit of Scouting: national heritage, physical fitness, and environmental conservation.
