U.S. SENATE CONFIRMS ONDCP DEPUTY DIRECTOR
FOR STATE AND LOCAL AFFAIRS
SCOTT BURNS TO BRING LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT
EXPERTISE TO DRUG CZAR'S OFFICE
(Washington, D.C.)—Today the United States Senate confirmed Scott Burns as the Deputy Director for State and Local Affairs at the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). Mr. Burns' successful experience using law enforcement tools to combat drugs at the local level will advance ONDCP's mission to aid the anti-drug efforts of local and state law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.
John P. Walters, the Director of National Drug Control Policy, said, "For years, Scott Burns has trained local law enforcement officers on topics that are key to our mission at ONDCP, including narcotics law enforcement, constitutional law, and corrections issues. He is familiar with all the levers available to local and state law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat drugs. We are eager to have Scott join us at ONDCP, where we can make use of his expertise to develop policy and training protocols that will make local law enforcement agencies more effective at disrupting the market for illegal drugs."
Mr. Burns joins ONDCP after serving as the County Attorney for Iron County, Utah since 1986. He has prosecuted over 100 felony jury cases, which include many high-profile prosecutions. In addition to his work as a prosecutor, Mr. Burns has served on several state and national boards including the White House Committee on Illegal Narcotics and Addiction, the Utah Police Academy Board of Trustees, the Utah Sentencing Commission, the Utah Chiefs of Police Association, and as Chairman of the Southern Utah Law Enforcement Agencies Board of Directors.
