Washington, DC–John P. Walters, Director of National Drug Control Policy, will be visiting Miami, Florida Wednesday, May 29th to promote President Bush's 2002 National Drug Control Strategy. President Bush's Strategy calls for a 10 percent reduction in drug use over the next two years and a 25 percent reduction over the next five years. Director Walters will make a series of stops in the Miami area to meet with local prevention and treatment advocates, as well as law enforcement officials. Walters will also receive briefings and observe demonstrations on current efforts to reduce the flow of illegal drugs into the United States through Florida and to improve border security.

Wednesday, May 29
| 7:00-9:00 a.m. | Morning News Show Availability The Drug Czar is available for live morning show interviews to discuss his activities in Miami, the connection between drugs and terror, the status of our nation's efforts to reduce drug use, and other topics related to drug control policy. |
| 10:15-11:15 a.m. | Tour of U.S. Customs operations at
the Miami Seaport Director Walters will receive briefings and will tour the inspection facilities at the Seaport. Open press tour includes demonstration of state-of-the-art container inspection equipment. A media availability will follow the tour. Location: First Security Gate at the Port of Miami, Miami Seaport. Media must gather at the security gate at 10:15 in order to be escorted onto the premises for press events. | 1:00-1:30 p.m. | Tour of the Miami-Dade Juvenile Assessment
Center Director Walters will tour the center and then receive briefings from criminal justice/treatment specialists and tour the center.
