WHITE HOUSE ANNOUNCES INTENT TO NOMINATE JAMES O'GARA AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR SUPPLY REDUCTION AT THE OFFICE OF NATIONAL DRUG CONTROL POLICY

(Washington, D.C.)—Today, the White House announced the President's intention to nominate James F.X. O'Gara of Pennsylvania as the Deputy Director for Supply Reduction in the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The Office of Supply Reduction oversees the implementation of the President's policies of disrupting the market by attacking the economic basis of the drug trade.

John P. Walters, Director of National Drug Control Policy, said, "As the principal author of the last three National Drug Control Strategies, James O'Gara has been at the heart of our efforts to reduce drug use in America. He is an outstanding choice to continue the progress we have made in disrupting the market for illegal drugs."

Mr. O'Gara has served as foreign policy specialist advising the Administrator at the Drug Enforcement Administration, as well as drug policy advisor to former Chairman Orrin G. Hatch of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Mr. O'Gara also worked as executive director of the Philanthropy Roundtable, an association of donors and private foundations. He currently serves as Special Assistant to the Director at ONDCP. Mr. O'Gara has a B.A. degree from St. John's College in Annapolis, MD. He and the former Ellen Townley have one daughter, Nancy.
