National Meth Awareness Day 2006

(Washington, D.C.)—Together with Federal, state, and local agencies, and several non-governmental organizations, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) will observe National Methamphetamine Awareness Day on Thursday, November 30, 2006.

National Methamphetamine Awareness Day will bring awareness and attention to the methamphetamine challenge in the United States, and highlight progress being made in reducing meth production, trafficking, and use.

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive and toxic drug that targets the user's central nervous system. Meth has a devastating impact on America's families and communities, and has ruined thousands of American lives.

The "Drug Czar," Director John P. Walters, and his deputies will be crisscrossing the United States to highlight National Methamphetamine Awareness Day on November 30, 2006, and will discuss national progress in combating the deadly scourge of meth through a balanced approach of prevention, treatment, and enforcement.

National Methamphetamine Awareness Day events will recognize Federal, state, and local agencies and organizations for their commitment to combating methamphetamine use and addiction and highlight individuals who have made significant contributions to reducing the meth problem.
